Are you an experienced and passionate midwife with a strong commitment to supporting the next generation of clinical practitioners? We are seeking a dedicated Midwife Clinical Coach to provide expert clinical education and guidance to midwives at various stages of their careers.

This role offers a unique opportunity to foster professional development, enhance clinical skills, and ensure culturally safe, evidence-informed practice in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Purpose of the Position:

As a Midwife Clinical Coach, you will play a key role in supporting new graduate midwives (Midwifery First Year of Practice - MFYP), midwives returning to practice, and staff needing to refresh their clinical skills. Your expertise will guide them through their clinical transitions, ensuring they develop into confident and competent practitioners.

Additionally, you will be responsible for promoting a learning environment that enhances staff retention and reduces stress through structured coaching, education, and support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Coaching: Provide one-on-one and group coaching to midwives to enhance their clinical skills and confidence in practice.
  • Mentorship: Role model clinical excellence and culturally safe practice while supporting midwives in achieving their individual learning goals.
  • Education Orientation: Assist with the orientation and clinical support of new staff and midwives entering the maternity service.
  • Program Development: Contribute to the development and enhancement of the midwifery new graduate programme, ensuring it provides high-quality support for new midwives.
  • Collaboration with Education Providers: Work closely with tertiary institutions to build strong relationships with students and facilitate a smooth transition from education to practice.
  • Cultural Support: Identify Maori and Pacific midwives who may benefit from additional cultural support and connect them with relevant resources.
  • Quality Improvement: Advocate for and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives within the maternity service.
  • Critical Thinking Development: Encourage midwives to develop critical thinking skills, enabling them to provide the best possible care for women and their whanau.

Essential:

  • NZ Registered Midwife with Current APC
  • 5+ years recent experience, post registration
  • Minimum 2 years inpatient clinical experience
