The Opportunity
As aPackaging Technologiston a12 Month Fixed Term Contract, you will play a crucial role in developing and coordinating packaging initiatives, cost-saving measures, and packaging improvements to support our new product development program. You will lead trials, liaise with external suppliers, and provide technical support to ensure successful product launches and continuous improvement in packaging quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to idea assessment and concept development for NPD projects.
- Run trials and conduct sample preparation at all stages – bench and pilot plant.
- Evaluate packaging quality issues and consider procurement, logistics, and manufacturing factors.
- Liaise with suppliers and internal teams to develop packaging from initiation to product launch.
- Perform packaging line trials, evaluate results, and implement changes.
- Develop and maintain packaging specifications and finished product specifications.
- Provide technical support and carry out cost-saving initiatives.
- Incorporate sustainability, recyclability, and waste minimization into packaging design.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, GMP, and HACCP standards.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Technology, Engineering, or Science.
- Experience in packaging development within the food industry, preferable.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer skills, including spreadsheets and statistical analysis.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and space optimization programs (Cape Pack).
- Understanding of Health & Safety, GMP, and HACCP standards.
