Laboratory Technician - Microbiology

Hill Labs is a nationwide analytical testing laboratory, offering quality services to clients across multiple market sectors including agriculture, environmental and food.

We have an excellent opportunity for a Laboratory Technician to join our leading New Zealand organisation in either a permanent part time role, or a casual role based in our commercial laboratory in Christchurch. We are looking for people who are self-disciplined with the ability to follow set procedures and take the initiative when necessary.

  • The permanent part time role will be working in the Microbiology team for 12 hours per week; working 4:30pm-7:30pm, Tuesday-Friday.
  • The casual position would suit a candidate who is looking to increase their range of laboratory skills, is very flexible with their time, and is available to work at short notice including evenings and weekends.
As a Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for carrying out laboratory operational activities to ensure efficient ongoing delivery of a quality analytical service to our clients whilst gaining practical training in a professional laboratory environment.
Key focus of role
  • Conducting lab operational duties to ensure efficient ongoing delivery of a quality analytical service to our clients
  • Calibration and maintenance of lab equipment
  • Knowledge of and an ability to follow ISO 17025 guidelines
  • Working closely with the extended team within the branch
About you
  • May have a tertiary qualification in science or relevant discipline, BSc advantageous
  • May have practical and theoretical chemistry and/or microbiology knowledge
  • Previous commercial laboratory experience advantageous
  • Excellent time management, communication and organisational skills
  • Good attention to detail and excellent computer skills
  • Able to work effectively (individually and within a team environment) with minimum supervision by following detailed laboratory instructions.
