We lead the regulatory management system (the set of policies, institutions, processes and tools employed by central government to pursue and maintain good quality regulation) and contribute to the design and operation of individual regulatory systems.We are a small group of dedicated professionals, working in a 'can do' environment.About the roleWe're looking for a productive and thoughtful Senior Advisor to join the Regulatory System Capability team at the Ministry for Regulation.This is a fixed term, part-time role (13 hours per week), for six months.

You'll be joining a small, smart, future-focused and passionate team of seven, committed to creating system-level impact.

We work collaboratively to lift the capability of those who design, deliver, and govern regulation, removing systemic obstacles and enabling good practice.We welcome applications from experienced professionals, those ready to step into a senior role, and people returning to the workforce.

We're flexible with how you structure your hours — whether that's split days or a mix of mornings and afternoons.You will Lead and contribute to discrete initiatives that improve regulatory system capability, from concept through to implementation and evaluationProduce resources such as frameworks, and guidance that strengthen regulatory practice and leadershipWork with agencies and leaders to understand how they can build stronger regulatory systems and make better regulatory decisionsContribute insight and engage in conversations about the evolving practice of regulation in New ZealandProvide data analysis to inform decision making.About youYou're a pragmatic problem-solver with a curious mind.

You enjoy designing your own approach to a task, working through ambiguity, and distilling complex material into something people can understand and use.You care about improving how government works.
You understand the value of lifting regulatory capability at a system level — and know that lasting change often begins with small, strategic interventions.You will bringExperience in regulation, policy, or public sector systems
