**Te Kowhiringa | The Opportunity**
Within the Business, the Leading Hand Carpenter directs and controls the activities and operations of a crew on a day-to-day basis, optimizing the use of company resources and contributing to the successful completion of contracts i.e. customers are satisfied and all targets (Safety, Quality, Environment, Productivity and profit) are achieved.
The Leading Hand Carpenter will also undertake site construction activities including specialist environmental control devices and carry out all activities the supervisor asks along with other field personnel to successfully complete projects as per contracts, safely, on schedule and within budget.
**The core responsibilities of the role will include;**- Operations: Complete work to quality specifications and timeframes as directed by Contract Manager, Team Leader.
- Team work: Assists other team members and other crews when required.
- People Management: Assist Site Supervisor in the selection, and undertake training, coaching and development of staff.
- Administration: Downer New Zealand policies and procedures are met with regard to sickness, annual leave, EDJR timesheets, health and safety policies, lunch and tea breaks.
- Learning: Participates in on job learning and training opportunities to know how to do the job and to develop own personal skills and career.
- Zero Harm: Support, implement and adhere to H&S policies and procedures.
- At least 2 years of relevant work experience in a similar role is required and demonstrated knowledge of environmental protection principles including specialist experience in the construction of Environmental control structures.
The following would be beneficial for the role but not required:
- Previous carpentry experience
- Physically fit
- Demonstrated Leadership
- Slinging and rigging Qualification desirable but not required
- Appropriate Driver Licence Classes for role
- Able to problem solve
- Leadership skills; professional image
- Team player; works easily with others
- Motivated to do a good job; reliable with a good work ethic
- Able to communicate with others; effective listening skills
- Keen to contribute to the team goals; self-starter and goal orientated
