El Matador serves the bold, fresh flavours of Latin American cuisine and wine, cocktails and beer to match. We need a full-time Commis Chef to join our friendly team ASAP.
Commis Chef job responsibilities:- Prepare and cook routine dishes, side dishes and salads.
- Understand and demonstrate correct food handling skills to maximize hygiene standards.
- Understand the basic procedures and principles involved in the various methods of cooking used at El Matador, to menu specifications maintaining quality assurance.
- Ensure cleanliness of utensils and work areas.
- Perform various other tasks related to the preparation, storage and cooking of food.
- Perform Kitchen Hand responsibilities, including dishwashing and general cleaning, as required.
Pay rate: $24.00 per hour (minimum) to $28.00 per hour (maximum), depending on skills and experience.
Hours of work: 30-45 hours per week (30 hours minimum guaranteed), over 5 days per week (2 consecutive days off per week), as per the roster. Must be available to work weekends. ElMatador is open 7 days a week and closed only on public holidays.
Location: El Matador Restaurant, 196 Cuba Street, Te Aro, Wellington 6011.Number of positions: 1 or 2.
Commis Chef applicants must have:- At least 6 months of relevant experience.
- Reliability, a positive attitude and teamwork skills.
- Training/experience with live fire cookery and Latin American cuisine is preferred, but not essential (on-the-job training will be provided).
- A relevant cookery/hospitality qualification is preferred, but not essential (on-the-job training will be provided).
- A valid NZ work visa or full NZ work rights is essential.
