Ashburton - Dairy Farm Assistant
Are you looking for a long term base for your time in New Zealand?
We’re looking for a hard-working, positive team player to join us on our farm until at least January next year with a flexible start date. Our ideal start date is early June but we are happy to wait until as late as early July for the right candidate - the right fit for our team is the most important thing.This will be a great position for someone to further their farming skills in New Zealand. Full training is provided.
Braemer Dairies is a family run 600 cow farm located at Methven, Canterbury. We are just over an hour south of Christchurch and 30 Minutes to the popular Mt Hutt Ski field.
Ideally the successful applicant will have some basic dairy farming experience and be available to work for 5+ months.(A longer term position may be available if interested)
What We’re Looking For:
- Previous dairy farm or livestock experience (essential)
- Positive attitude, energy, and a love for working in a team
- Trustworthy, proud of your work, and ready to learn
- An approved working holiday visa or the required visa to work in New Zealand (AEWV not supported)
- Your own car is necessary (we are not close to public transport)
- Bonus: Tractor or 2-wheel motorbike experience
- Good communication skills including fluent spoken English as you will be required to follow instructions and work in an environment where you will be operating machinery
Your role will include a mix of tasks, depending on your experience and how quickly you pick things up. You will be working with 3 other staff members in a picturesque area with great outdoor activities at our doorstep such a skiing, hiking, mountain biking, fishing & jet boating.
Duties will be to assist with the daily operations of our dairy farm such as:
- Milking
- Animal health
- Calf rearing and calving tasks
- Weed control
- Moving irrigation
- General farm maintenance
- Tractor work

- Living with a partner? They are welcome to live with you but note we can not offer enough work for 2 people. However there are farms and cafes etc nearby that will likely have work available
Requirements:
- You must be eligible to work in New Zealand
- Have your own transport (we’re not close to public transport)
- A commitment to stay until at least January 2026
