Harvesting Supervisor

Southwood Export Ltd is looking to appoint a Harvesting Supervisor, with responsibilities to supervise harvesting, forwarding, log loading and infrastructure contractors.
Southwood Export Ltd (SWEL) is a vertically integrated wood chip manufacturing and export business which has been operating since 1981. SWEL manages 12,500 hectares of eucalypt plantations in Southland and South Otago, owns and operates a Chip Mill facility and ship loading equipment at the port of Bluff.

SWEL manages 12,500 hectares of eucalypt plantations in Southland and South Otago, owns and operates a Chip Mill facility and ship loading equipment at the port of Bluff.
Currently harvesting around 350,000 tonnes of eucalypt logs per year which are chipped and exported to paper mills in Japan.
Reporting to the Harvesting and Infrastructure Manager, the primary purpose of this role will be to:
- Ensure operations are conducted according to the company Harvest Plan, the budget, safety and
- Ensure all contractual requirements including the applicable standard, and the requirements of the FSC® and
- Engage and liaise with neighbours and other stakeholders to ensure the safety and environmental values are
- Complete site surveys and environmental impact assessments.
- Ensure that the operations are economic, efficient and effective.
- Comparable industry experience and previous experience of forestry harvesting principles and practices.
- Contractor management experience
- Understanding of environmental regulations, health and safety and compliance
- Excellent organisational skills, in particular time management
- Be able to collaborate, engage, negotiate and influence others.
- High level of energy, drive and enthusiasm with a continuous improvement mindset.
