About the role

You will be joining a team that provides social work services for inpatients and outpatients and their whanau affected by cancer.

These services include the following:

  • Undertaking social work assessments, interventions, and evaluations
  • Liaising and collaborating with the MDT and community service providers to deliver a wraparound service for patients
  • Be responsive, address inequities, and reduce barriers in accessing health services
  • Protecting vulnerable patients from harm as a result of abuse and neglect

About you

To be successful in this position, you will also need to demonstrate the following:

  • Be registered with the New Zealand Social Workers Board (NZSWRB) and hold a current Annual Practicing Certificate
  • Ability to think on your feet and be experienced at working under pressure whilst multi-tasking
  • Preferably, have experience working in oncology
  • Strong understanding of social determinants of health and the impact this has the patients and whanau health and social need
  • Be familiar with the Treaty of Waitangi in relation to health
  • Demonstrate knowledge of family violence and child protection issues and be able to respond to challenging situations appropriately

You will need to be adaptable and flexible allowing you to work effectively with your patient and whanau and within a changing health environment.
