Maintenance Manager National Support

After a long-standing successful career at Airways, our Maintenance Manager National Support will be retiring. With this in mind, we are starting our recruitment process to find someone who can carry forward and build on the legacy of excellence that has been established.
This is a full-time permanent opportunity based at our Christchurch campus in Burnside. This role leads a high-performing team of team leaders who look after our national systems specialists, national calibration and repair technicians, and technical coordinators.
This role also takes ownership of the support assets that fall within the wider national operations and maintenance team, ensuring that fault rectification activities on Airways communication, navigation and surveillance equipment are coordinated on a national basis.
Key focus areas:
- Provide people and thought leadership, directing, coaching and empowering to maintain a high-performing team focused on quality, cost-effectiveness, continuous improvement and high standards.
- Manage resources to ensure all work is appropriately scheduled and completed in accordance with the maintenance program.
- Monitor all project activity to ensure adherence to the project plan and manage projects as required to the annual business planning process.
- Optimise the maintenance program whilst staying abreast of maintenance obligations, supplier agreements and safety.
- Strive to improve standards by continuously improving maintenance practices and service delivery at unit and national levels.
- Manage the budget to ensure alignment with approved limits, evaluating alternative means of service delivery as well as preparing and submitting the annual test equipment capex.
- Customer engagement to ensure facilities and services meet current and future needs, including managing customer service levels.
- Accountable for unit compliance to meet the provisions of the management manuals and CAA regulations.
- Asset management which includes organising and managing the digital asset life cycle from creation to distribution, production, and archiving.
To be successful, you will have:
- Proven leadership experience of technical teams, preferably within a unionised environment.
- Broad experience in Communications, Navigation, Surveillance (CNS) and Air Traffic Management (ATM) technologies.
- A relevant tertiary qualification or industry certifications ideally in aviation, engineering, or business management.
- Experience in radio frequency (RF), electro-technologies, mechatronic or similar engineering disciplines.
- Prior success in managing the development and delivery of technology-based services.
- Computer savvy with moderate capability using MS Office products such as Word, Excel, and Teams.
- A good understanding of a wide range of technologies and capable of understanding not only how the technology functions but how it is used and where it fits into the business.
- Ability and comfort to challenge ideas and speak up in group discussions.
- Confidence needed to interact with both internal and external customers.
