Data Scientist
About the Role
Te Whānau o Waipareira is now searching for a Data Scientist with strong technical capabilities to join our Data Science & Transformation team. This is a fixed-term, full-time opportunity until the end of June 2025.
Our Data Scientist will build and optimize data processes, developing visualizations, and supporting key data and reporting projects. The ideal candidate for this role will have prior experience working with Python, Power BI, and ELT pipelines, along with a proven ability to work independently in dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
This is a hands-on role where you will contribute to automating data workflows, enhancing data quality, and developing reporting tools to support business decision making across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities- Build and optimize data flows and pipelines to consolidate and standardize datasets.
- Create dashboards and reports that present data insights clearly and effectively.
- Develop process improvements and automation solutions for data cleaning, transformation, and validation of data accuracy/quality.
- Apply statistical techniques to analyse and interpret data, identifying trends, patterns, and insights that inform decision-making.
- Prototype and develop tools, frameworks, and processes to support the wider data reporting & analysis teams.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues and external stakeholders to understand data requirements and provide technical expertise.
- 3+ years of relevant experience developing and implementing comprehensive analytics solutions, from processing and cleaning datasets, conducting analysis and modelling, to visualization and effective communication of results.
- Strong expertise in Python or similar data science languages to produce high-quality, maintainable code.
- Skilled in conveying results, insights, and technical methodologies clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience building and operationalizing standardized data workflows – transformation processes and/or ELT/ETL pipelines to streamline and automate reporting.
- Proficiency in Power BI or equivalent data visualization tools.
- Understanding of statistical techniques for data validation and analysis.
- Ability to interpret large datasets, identifying meaningful patterns and insights to inform business decisions.
- Experience with metadata management and data governance.
- Knowledge of database systems (e.g., SQL) and other scripting languages is advantageous.
