AOD Practitioner

About the role
The AOD Professional is responsible for supporting the organisational and service change management, including reviewing the current model of care; reviewing best practice and evidence-based service provision; redesigning and implementing any changes required to ensure service is fit-for-purpose.Aspects of the new design will include healing; transformation and trauma informed care as well as enabling integration across all services in the Mission.

Duties- Provide intake and withdrawal assessments for individual clients, prepare mental health and risk assessment as needed.
- Maintain individual case notes and ensure they are entered into the system by the end of each shift.
- Support clients who have been referred from community alcohol and drug services and liaising with specialist nurses.
- Support detox clients many of whom have co-existing issues which can result in problems including aggressive behaviour and deep depression / suicidal thoughts.
- Provide advocacy supporting client to attend appointments. (E.g., Court, Work and Income, applying for emergency housing
- Post Graduate qualifications and/or experience / qualification in Management or team leadership DAAPANZ Registered Practitioner.
- Commitment to embodying the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi in organisational practice.
- Empathy and understanding of issues of trauma, mental health, addiction, poverty and homelessness.
- Excellent team building, collaboration and partnering skills, with aptitude for getting things done through both formal and informal channels.
- Full clean driver’s licence.
Skills, experience and knowledge may also be obtained from a number of different experiences. For example, from paid work, voluntary work, work undertaken within your Church, Marae, or from specific iwi/whanau responsibilities.

Auckland City Mission - Te Tapui Atawhai supports Aucklanders in greatest need. Our services have evolved as the city’s social needs have changed, and we respond to these needs with care and compassion while advocating for a reality where there are: enough suitable homes, enough money for nutritious food, and easily accessible health care for all.Since our doors opened more than 100 years ago, this has been our ‘why’.
