About the Role

Waikato Hospital serves as a teaching hospital and the premier tertiary referral centre, delivering specialized and emergency healthcare to the Waikato and Te Manawa Taki (Midlands) region, which has a catchment population of approximately 900,000.

Notably, it is the only major hospital in New Zealand that offers a comprehensive range of surgical specialties on a single campus and acts as the primary trauma centre for the central North Island. The cardiology department is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to support advanced medical care.

In recent years, we have seen a significant increase in demand for both acute and elective procedures in our Cardiac Catheter Labs (CCL) at Waikato Hospital. This trend presents an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual seeking to leverage their leadership skills and experience, or for those ready to advance their careers, in the role of Cardiac Catheter Lab Manager.

As our Cath Lab Manager, you will lead a dedicated multidisciplinary team, overseeing the daily operations and services of our Cath Lab to ensure the highest standards of patient care. Your leadership abilities will be crucial in supporting and mentoring your team, while effectively addressing the healthcare needs of the Te Manawa Taki (Midlands) region.

We seeking to appoint the position of Cardiac Catheter Lab Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to be a key part of a dynamic team who work closely together to manage the operations of our cardiac catheter lab facilities to meet the needs of the Te Manawa Taki (Midland) region.

You will have responsibility for:

  • Efficient and effective operational management of the CCL service;
  • Managing of the supporting functions of Echo, Physiology and Cardiac MRT.
  • Establishing and maintaining positive collaborative relationships with peers, colleagues and with key external parties
  • Managing and leading the people, systems, processes and resources that facilitate efficient and effective service delivery within the CCL

About the Team/Service

Our interdisciplinary team offers a comprehensive range of cardiac diagnostic and interventional procedures, including coronary, electrophysiology, pacing, structural heart disease intervention, imaging, and cardiac diagnostic tests, as well as after-hours emergency coverage.

In addition to four labs, we offer a 15-bed facility that provides pre and post-procedure care to our patients from 0700-1900 Monday through Friday and we also provide nursing support for cardiac testing/non-cath procedures.

We are based in Hamilton, the third largest city in the North Island. It is 1½ hours from Auckland via a new expressway, and offers a great lifestyle. As the largest employer in Hamilton, there is a varied and approachable social network based around the hospital.

It is within easy reach of both west coast surfing and east coast leisure beaches. Ski-fields and hot pools are a few hours away, and there are outstanding opportunities for hiking, fishing, biking and many other outdoor activities, providing plenty of options for recreation.

About you
  • Have leadership and operational management experience in a CCL environment
  • Have superior communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships across disciplines
  • Be up to the challenges of a continuous programme of enhancing efficiency in the Cath Lab
  • Bring a positive, inclusive culture to the role
  • Have an appropriate professional qualification or relevant experience in a health management position
