Freight Service Representative – Picton Terminal (Tuesday to Saturday AM Shift)
We are looking for a permanent full-time Freight Service Representative to join our awesome team at our Picton Terminal!- StraitNZ is a unique, nationwide end-to-end transport service, connecting New Zealand across both road and sea. Our fleet of 2 ships and over 200 trucks is supported by a nationwide network of 10 depots and a 450+ strong team to deliver hundreds of thousands of tonnes of freight (and passengers) weekly.
- You need to be reliable and happy to work independently on a Tuesday to Saturday AM shift roster. There will be some weekend and public holiday work.
- You are an organised planner, an administration whiz, and have great communication skills.
- You can pick up tech systems quickly and can speak clearly on the phone with clients.
- You enjoy being in a busy environment where you may need to make decisions under pressure.
- You work well in a diverse team environment and can also work unsupervised when required.
- You need a full and clean driver’s license.
- You will have experience working in the transport industry OR in a role with similar relevant skills.
- You must be able to work full-time in the freight office at our Picton Terminal.
- To be considered for this role, you will need to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, a medical exam, and an MOJ check. Candidates must also have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa and currently reside in New Zealand.??
- Providing freight solutions and quotes to our customers regarding their shipping requirements.
- Taking bookings and ensuring customers get the best service every time.
- Coordinating and overseeing the loading/unloading of freight and trucks from our ships.
- Working closely with our drivers and shipmates to ensure a seamless transition from land to water every time.
- Attending all vessels to handle the mooring lines for arrivals and departures.
- Reporting any maintenance requirements, safety issues, or complaints promptly and through the correct channels.
Our preferred candidate may have:
- Experience working in an administration, coordination, or service representative-based role.
- A can-do attitude and willingness to learn new tasks.
- Availability for shift work (weekends and public holidays included).
- Knowledge of the freight & transportation industry.
- Experience using BookIT or other tech systems.
