Instrument Technician - NIWA
Join our Instrument Systems team based in Christchurch where you will be focusing on the delivery and support of climate, hydrometric and other environmental monitoring systems.
What you will be doing:
You will work closely with other Instrument Systems technicians and be involved in all aspects of environmental monitoring system construction, maintenance, calibration, and instrument servicing while some projects may include installation and customer training.
The focus is on performing and managing the calibration, service and repair operations on a range of water velocity and rainfall monitoring instruments. In addition, assisting in the deliverance of instrumentation and monitoring stations as part of environmental monitoring projects will also be required.What you will bring:
To be successful in this role you will have:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in electronics, science or physics or a trade certificate in electronics or mechanical engineering is preferred, but not essential. Experience with industrial/environmental instrumentation and processes would also be beneficial.
- An interest in meteorology and/or hydrology.
- Experience and an understanding of instrument calibration, mechanical engineering and electronics principles.
- Expertise in some of the following areas will be preferred: mechanical component design and manufacture, fitting and turning, mechanical engineering, computer aided design, mechanical instrument maintenance (current meters, rain gauges, etc.) and fluid mechanics
- An understanding of data with an ability to identify cause and effect and trends over time.
- Familiarisation with the requirements of ISO 9001
- Capability to learn new technical skills in relation to environmental monitoring instrumentation and telemetry.
- A strong client-driven and self-driven work ethic and enjoy working in a busy, varied environment.
