About the role

As 2IC, you’ll play a crucial role in supporting the Stormwater/Wastewater Coordinator to oversee all maintenance and construction activities related to our wastewater and stormwater infrastructure. Additionally, you'll provide mentorship and leadership to our dedicated team of maintenance professionals.

This role is a rostered on call role that will look after our stormwater and wastewater network by clearing blockages and making repairs, you will also look after our open stream network.

Your focus in this role:
  • Provide oversight of all Three Water Infrastructure Works, including maintenance and construction activities.
  • Collaborate with coordinators to ensure a safe workplace environment and adherence to health and safety standards.
  • Lead toolbox meetings and maintain open communication with key stakeholders.
  • Mentor and support staff members in the SW/WW Maintenance Team.
  • Step in to lead the team when required, managing workloads and assigning tasks effectively.

About you

This role would suit a skilled professional who is eager to grow and develop their leadership capabilities as they take the next step in their career. To be successful in this role you will ideally have minimum of 5 years water construction experience.

A current drivers’ licence is essential as this role will involve operating heavy machinery and working on sites across Palmerston North therefore a holder of Class 2 and W, T, R endorsements is also an advantage.

In addition, you will:
  • Have the ability to communicate with a wide range of people from varying backgrounds in an effective and professional manner.
  • Possess empathy and demonstrated integrity and understanding through contact with the public and appropriate user groups.
  • Have the ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Be able to work under pressure, whilst maintaining professionalism and attention to detail.
  • A reasonable level of physical fitness is required as this position may require the individual to work in challenging environments.
