Diesel Mechanic

We are seeking a professional and reliable diesel mechanic to join our Engineering team in our Wellington Yard and focus on the repairs and maintenance of our machinery.

Macaulay Metals is a 100% New Zealand owned and operated Scrap Metal Recycling Company and we’ve been in operation for over 60 years! We purchase both steel and non-ferrous metals, process them and sell them for further recycling. We are working hard to recycle scrap metal.

We are currently looking for a Diesel Mechanic to join our small but busy team at our Seaview yard.

The successful candidate will be responsible for speaking with drivers and machinery operators and discussing any troubles experienced, as well as performing check-ups to identify and repair any malfunctions. The mechanic will be expected to perform standard scheduled services and upkeep on forklifts and excavators to keep all vehicles and machinery functioning at its best.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following:

• At least three years’ experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy machinery like Forklifts and excavators.
• Hydraulic fitting and repairs.
• Ability to work on own, honest, and reliable.
• Clear communication skills.
• Attention to detail with ability to problem solve quickly.
• Willing and ability to learn new skills.
• Strong focus in Workplace Health and Safety Processes.
• Clean criminal record and ability to pass a drug and alcohol test.
• Clean and current driver’s license. F endorsement an advantage.
• Team player with a positive attitude to getting a job done and working with colleagues.
• Be legally entitled to work in New Zealand. i.e., be a New Zealand or Australian citizen or a New Zealand permanent resident.
