He angitūtanga | About the roleThis is an exciting opportunity for someone experienced in wildlife conservation, advocacy and education to join our talented team and carry out our critical biodiversity work.

This role is responsible for leading the planning and delivery of key work programmes focused on the protection of Pakake /New Zealand sea lions, threatened plants and wildlife response in Coastal Otago. You'll enjoy a mix of field and office-based work, depending on the needs of the programme.The position is focussed on:Building relationships and collaborating with colleagues, mana whenua, local communities, and stakeholders to share knowledge and strengthen conservation outcomes.Educating the public and advocating for the protection of pakake/NZ sealions.Coordinating with colleagues to implement actions from the NZ Sealion Action Plan 2024-29.Protecting and managing threatened plant populations.Collating, analysing, and reporting on data.Leading the District response to sick or injured wildlife.Supporting the wider District and Regional Operations team as needed.We work strongly in partnership with iwi, hapū and whānau in the management of lands and taonga species and have multiple strategic partnerships in action that support and enhance the conservation work that we do.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experienceWe are looking for a committed team player, who is versatile and resilient and able to tackle a variety of office and field mahi. If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you:Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work with our Treaty partner and a range of stakeholders.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including advocacy and education experience.Specialist knowledge and experience in practical management of threatened species and ecosystems, including marine mammals, threatened plants and wildlife response.Experience as a team lead and the ability to work successfully as part of a that team.A critical thinker with the ability to plan and deliver on conservation programmes.A strong health and safety focus and experience leading the health and safety of others.Proficient in using computer-based systems, MS Office, data management and reporting.Flexible with the ability to work across various workstreams and adapt to changing priorities.A valid New Zealand driving licence.Desirable:Tertiary qualification in conservation or wildlife management.First Aid Certificate.Wildlife tagging and microchipping experience.Trapping knowledge.
