Whangārei HospitalFulltime PermanentCommencing July 2025 From Whangarei to Dargaville or the Bay of Islands to Kaitaia, there's nothing routine about working in Health New Zealand - Northland (Health New Zealand). Providing healthcare in such a natural and rugged environment provides everyday challenges - but that's what makes a career here so special.
And, we're lucky enough to enjoy everything this action-packed region has to offer at the end of the day. Health New Zealand is committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and holds stewardship for equitable health outcomes for Māori as Tāngata Whenua as the highest priority.
About our ServiceHealth New Zealand provides secondary care services to a large rural region with complex health needs. Northland covers an area of 12,600 square kilometres and has a population of approximately 201,000; 50% of this population is served by four Rural hospitals.
Due to the population make up and the unselected nature of our admissions Registrars gain experience managing a wide variety of conditions including rarer conditions such as rheumatic fever, tuberculosis and meningococcal disease. An accredited comprehensive training programme allocates RMOs at Whangarei, Kaitaia, Bay of Islands, Dargaville and Rawene as part of their Rural Hospital Medicine training programme.
Whangarei is a secondary base hospital providing a wide range of services including ED, medical and surgical specialties, ICU, ENT, O&G, Paediatrics and Psychiatry. All required runs for RHM training are accredited by the DRHMNZ. Working closely with your consultant means you can widen your practice as your skills grow.
Working closely with your community means allows you to develop an in-depth understanding of rural health care in New Zealand. We provide close supervision for trainees in acute and outpatient settings, allied with a commitment to teaching. There is an active clinical training programme within the district including support for DRHMNZ academic training components and required courses.
