About us

In terms of a community, Canterbury Hockey is proud to be one of the largest Hockey Association in the country with over 5500 registered players, and even more when considering the entirety of our passionate community of volunteers, officials, coaches, managers, parents, and staff, along with our impressive player base.

The Canterbury Hockey Association team is responsible for the administration and direction of hockey in the Canterbury region. We are a non-profit sporting incorporated society based at Nunweek Park. Our wonderful community is made up of affiliated clubs and schools.

We rely on our dedicated community of volunteers to help us deliver our attractive game at Nunweek Park, Nga Puna Wai, Marist Park, Rangiora and Rolleston as well as a number of junior venues throughout the region. We have a fantastic junior base, and around 20 representative teams playing at National Tournaments every year, with plenty of opportunities and enjoyment at all levels in between.

The Canterbury Hockey Association team is a small and passion crew, that is dedicated and enthusiastic about servicing our members and delivering a great product to our valuable community.

The Role

We are looking for a new Facilities Caretaker to join our team.

Reporting directly to our CEO, this great role will be responsible for:

  • delivering a genuine sense of pride and presentation of Canterbury Hockey’s two main facilities – Nunweek Park and Nga Puna Wai.
  • overseeing and assisting with the general safety and maintenance of Canterbury Hockey’s wider facility network.
  • the execution and review of Canterbury Hockey’s asset management plan
Details:
  • Work type: Full-time position
  • Hours: An overall average of 25 hours per week (some weekend will be required)
  • Hourly Structure: An average of 30 hours per week over Winter (March – August) & an average of 20 hours per week over Summer (September – February)
  • Role Structure: Flexibility to complete average hours
  • Pay structure: Hourly Rate
  • Tools of the trade provided: Vehicle, fuel card, laptop & mobile phone package

What do you need?

The key attribute needed for this role will be to demonstrate a genuine sense of pride and ownership of our wonderful facilities along with a desire to consistently present them in a way to maximise our community’s experience.

Other competencies, skills and attributes that would be desirable include:

  • Willingness to be execute your role as part of the Canterbury Hockey team
  • The ability to self-manage all required daily, weekly and seasonal tasks with strong time management
  • Capable of completing key hockey facility tasks – turf grooming, scoreboard and field set ups
  • Capable of completing key facility maintenance tasks – goal repairs, lawn mowing, weed control, rubbish management
  • Capable of completing general handyman tasks
  • Previous experience or the ability to manage the organisations Health & Safety
  • Strong communication skills – both verbal and written
  • A minimum level of computer skills is required – emails and basic excel spreadsheets
  • Ability to work with a range of people
