About the Company & Culture: Our client is a well established, New Zealand owned business operating across the vehicle rental and fleet management industry. With branches nationwide, they provide commercial vehicle and car hire solutions to a diverse customer base.

Their focus is on delivering efficient, reliable, and cost-effective transport solutions, and they are looking for a Fleet Operations Manager to take their fleet strategy to the next level.

About the role: This is a hands on leadership role where you’ll be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and compliance of a large vehicle fleet. You’ll play a key role in reducing mechanical costs, improving fleet utilisation, and ensuring safety and compliance across all branches.

This is a role for someone who is not afraid of hard work, enjoys being on the ground, and is ready to take full ownership of fleet operations.

Day to day responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement an effective fleet strategy to optimise vehicle utilisation.
  • Oversee maintenance and compliance, ensuring all vehicles meet safety and regulatory standards.
  • Reduce mechanical spend through proactive maintenance planning and supplier negotiations.
  • Lead and train branch staff in fleet procedures and best practices.
  • Conduct regular audits and site visits across branches to maintain high operational standards.
  • Manage fleet-related budgets and reporting, ensuring cost efficiency.
  • Act as the primary contact for all fleet-related matters, including breakdowns and vehicle sales.

Days/ Hours: 50 hours per week

About You: You're a hands-on fleet expert with a strong mechanical background, looking for a role where you can take ownership and drive real impact. You're not afraid to roll up your sleeves, lead from the front, and get stuck into the operational side of fleet management.

With a sharp eye for efficiency and cost control, you thrive in a fast-paced environment and can confidently engage with people at all levels of the business.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Extensive fleet management experience in rental, transport, or logistics, with a strong understanding of vehicle maintenance and compliance.
  • A mechanical background – whether you're an ex-mechanic or have deep technical knowledge of vehicles, you know what it takes to keep a fleet running smoothly.
  • A proactive, hands-on leadership style – you're not just managing from a desk; you're on the ground, driving performance and leading by example.
  • Strong commercial acumen – you know how to reduce costs, negotiate with suppliers, and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Excellent communication skills – you can confidently engage with everyone from workshop staff to senior leadership, ensuring smooth operations across all branches.
